Autumn, as we know, is a time of change, of things (leaves, daylight) wilting and dying off. For me, as an acupuncturist, this is the opportune time to shed that unwanted whatever it is; clear away the debris, let go of what we need to. Energetically this is the time of the metal element, which is all about our boundaries with the external world, and the ties that connect us. The metal element is associated with lung energy, and grieving and courage. Grieving, and specifically crying, gives us the opportunity to break down these ties, changing the boundaries, allowing us to move on. I’m not saying its an easy process, but a very necessary one. Also linked to courage… how often have you found yourself taking a deep breath and then going for it!!!
Breath is the single most fundamental thing to our existence: without it we die in a matter of minutes. We can use this to our advantage and take the time to strengthen our metal energies with simple breathing techniques.
1. SLOW IT DOWN: take a slow deep inhale, fill them as much as you can, then slowly let it go, repeat for 5-10 breaths.. instant calm
2. Speed it up… 15 short sharp breaths in and out.. instant energy boost!
3. Improve you posture: don’t stay slumped over a desk all day
