The latest addition to Paula’s tool kit is commonly known as ‘scalp acupuncture’ but is often also referred to as neuro-acupuncture. It is the culmination of Doctor. Shunfa Jiao, years of work and research. He was a neurosurgeon, that in 1971 attempted scalp acupuncture for the 1st time on a patient that had just had a
stroke, with remarkable resultsl. He has researched, and practiced and taught Neuro-acupuncture for almost 60 years. Dr. Jiao’s combination of acupuncture with neurology has had great influence over the treatment and research of neurological disorders worldwide. Paula was lucky enough to receive his guidance and knowledge directly when he came to the UK in 2018, and completed his advanced practitioner training (with a translator of course – Paula’s Chinese isn’t good enough!).
Although scalp acupuncture is renowned for its treatment of stroke, bells palsy, parkinsons etc it is also incredibly useful for more ‘day to day’ conditions, such as generalist pain, sciatica, digestive disorders, restricted joint movement and of course Paula’s favourite topic, mental health.
Dr Jiao even reported a case of ‘curing drug addiction’ (paraphrasing him) whilst he was in California in the 1990s with just one treatment.
Paula was truly impressed with the IMMEDIATE effects felt by the patients (Dr Jiao has lots of video evidence of his amazing results), along with the demonstration type treatments we received as part of the training group – he even needled her (for low grade knee pain/stiffness) and 24 hours later – still feeling the benefit with just TWO needles!!!
Paula is excited to be adding this to her existing treatments to further enhance the efficacy of her treatments – and is already in talks with NHS staff to arrange a wee experiment for conditions that have required hospitalisation – keep your eyes peeled for the results of that one!
